ELEVATE YOUR CARD DESIGNS WITH THIS SIMPLE TECHNIQUE

Elevate your card designs with a simple yet effective technique: adding layered elements. This clever trick creates a striking focal point without adding bulk, giving your cards visual interest and depth. Let’s dive into how I created this beach-themed birthday card.

Background: First, I created the background for my card. To achieve the soft, faded look, I used Distress Oxides in Scattered Straw, Tea Dye, and Broken China (for the sky). I then stamped the splatter using Concord and 9th Wheat and Nutmeg ink to represent the sand.

With the background in place, I moved on to stamping the sentiment and beach huts. I brought the huts to life by coloring them in with Copic Sketch markers.

Beach Sign: Next, I focused on creating the beach sign. I stamped the sign on 80# white cardstock, cut it out, and placed it on the “sand.” I then colored in the post and seagull using Copic markers.

To add some dimension to the sign, I stamped the image again on 100# white cardstock and colored the three signs with Copics. I then glued several pieces of scrap cardstock together and cut out the 3 signs.

Finally, I added a small strip of foam tape to the backside of the signs and colored the edges brown to help disguise the tape in the shadows. And that’s it! This technique adds depth and visual interest to your cards without adding bulk.

Just over here trying to spread a little sunshine one card at a time. I'm fueled by Dr. Pepper, sarcasm and especially puns. I hope my cards bring others even a portion of the joy that I feel creating them. #cre8yoursunshine☀️
