COZY CHRISTMAS VILLAGE

I’m thrilled to share my latest holiday card creation with you, and I think it might just be my favorite one yet!  This charming winter wonderland scene is made up of tiny houses, snow-covered trees, and a sprinkle of festive magic. In this post, I’ll walk you through the steps to create this card, plus share some shortcuts to make it easier to mass produce.

Let’s get started! I began by creating a soothing blue background by blending two blue inks, adding a touch of snow with a little white splatter. Next, I stamped the tree branches and heat embossed them to make them pop against the background. Then, I stamped each house, also embossing them to add dimension, and carefully masked them to build up the scene. I added a line of trees behind them once all of the houses were masked. (Just remember when creating a scene: always work from front to back!)

To bring the scene to life, I used my trusty Copic markers to add warm glows in the windows and soft reflections on the snow. A dash of green on the Christmas trees and gentle blues and greys on the snow in the foreground completed the look. After fussy cutting around the tree line, I layered it over the background and die-cut a circle to create a beautiful backdrop for the sentiment. The final touch was a little metallic gold on the star and ornaments on the Christmas trees in the background!

But here’s the thing: I know you crafty folks love a good shortcut! Next time, I’ll be trying a few tweaks to simplify the process. Instead of fussy cutting the trees as a separate layer I will do everything directly on the card base. I’ll stamp the houses at the bottom of the card and add some trees on a snowy mountain behind them. Then I will only have to fussy cut and mask off the mountain instead of all of the trees! I may also just blend one blue on the top part of the card. And, while the heat embossing looks amazing, I might just skip it to speed things up.

Want to give it a try? Grab your stamps, ink, and markers, and get crafty! You could create a day scene or get creative with a non-traditional color in the sky. What’s your favorite part of the card? Share with me in the comments below!

Just over here trying to spread a little sunshine one card at a time. I'm fueled by Dr. Pepper, sarcasm and especially puns. I hope my cards bring others even a portion of the joy that I feel creating them. #cre8yoursunshine☀️
